To earn my degree I had to overcome the stressors that came with being incarcerated while managing the challenges that come with completing each class. I never gave up.

To me, this degree represents twenty years of effort, failure, resilience, growth and finally, success.

School gives us the skills to join people together; to realize that we are all, in a sense, brothers and sisters, and that we must live together as one united community, with love and respect for each other.

The main reason I enrolled in Mount Tamalpais College was to accomplish what my mother instilled in me but on a higher level. So with this achievement of an Associate of Arts Degree, I honor and celebrate the life of my mother Dorothy Lee Gearin. 

This degree is the second greatest accomplishment I have ever had in my life –  the first being found suitable for parole on March 5th, 2024, which my college education aided in my achieving. So, MTC has played a pivotal role in the life and success of Gregory Eskridge. I am eternally grateful for the years spent in this program. Thank you to all of the amazing teachers and staff.

It wasn’t memorizing the facts and figures, but connecting with the people that led me to discover and accept who I am. The wonderful people of MTC invited me to learn, grow, love, and become a better me.

The knowledge and development resulting from my experience with Mount Tamalpais College (MTC) have been ameliorative. Education is the process by which students acquire knowledge, skills, habits, and values, and more importantly, it establishes how we see the world we live in.
